Speak up for Fair Water Billing
On Thursday, April 18, Wilmington City Council will vote on three laws to make water billing in Wilmington more fair and affordable. If passed, the laws would require the City of Wilmington to:
Stop using foreclosure to collect overdue water bills from homeowners
Stop shutting off water for overdue water bills when the family includes a senior, a disabled person, or a child under 5.
Hire an outside consultant to help Wilmington create a water rate system that makes water affordable.
Can you help?
Three ways to make a difference:
1) Send a letter
2) Come to the City Council meeting on April 18 at 6:30 PM in person or by zoom and speak up in support. Attend in person at 800 N. French St. or by zoom.
3) Contact your City Council member and ask them to vote YES on these laws. Click here to find City Council Member Contact Info.

Speak Against Increased Fees and Fines in City Budget
City Council will discuss the City's proposed revenues, which include a whopping 30% increase to fine revenue and 9% increase to revenue from water bills next year, this Wed. April 3 starting at 4:30. Here's the zoom link: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/87957013793 and meeting ID: 879 5701 3793
With $90 million in reserves, and $60 million of that accumulated in the last seven years, it's time for the City to end unfair fees and fines and create a budget that is balanced, fair and sustainable. Speak up Wed. and ask City Council to NOT increase water bills and fine revenue as part of this year's budget.

Finance Committee Meeting
At this Finance Committee meeting, tell your water bill story and ask City Council members to support these changes to Wilmington’s water billing:
Don’t raise water bills this year
Stop water bill foreclosures for homeowners
Stop water shutoffs for vulnerable families (households with children under 5, people with disabilities and elderly residents)
Implement an affordable water billing system
Organizing Training
1 in 3 customers are behind in their water bills, but Wilmington keeps raising rates - and using some of the money they get through water billing to fund city services that have nothing to do with water. That's not fair. At this organizing training, learn how to talk to your City Council representative to ask them to make water bills fair and affordable. RSVP encouraged but not required. Hope to see you there!

Learn to Organize! Focus on How City Council Works
Have you gotten red light or parking tickets you can't afford? Has your car been booted or towed, costing money and time you didn't have?
The City of Wilmington promised last year to reduce parking tickets from $40 to $25, but Wilmington City Council needs to vote on it. City Council needs to hear from residents why they should vote in support of reducing parking tickets to $25.
Wilmington Fines and Fees Justice is running a training program for people who have gotten parking or red light tickets and see the need for change. Learn how to talk to decision-makers and organize your neighbors, friends, and family to help make parking and red light ticketing less expensive and more fair.
At this training, learn how Wilmington City Council works and how to give public comment. All are welcome!
When: Wed. August 23
Time: 5:30 PM
Location: Wilmington Public Library at 10 E 10th St in downtown Wilmington
Room: Jacob Brown Room
RSVP's are welcome but not required. Hope to see you there!
