FINES AND FEES JUSTICE TEAM

How We Got Here

When Wilmington City Council started focusing on fine and fee reform, several Council Members saw an opportunity to engage the community and reached out to community groups that had been working on these issues, including the Wilmington Parking Coalition, the H.O.M.E.S. Campaign, and the Campaign to End Debtor's Prison. 

This City Council and community collaboration became a working group that is called the Wilmington Fines and Fees Justice Team. The Wilmington Fines and Fees Justice Team is focused on helping Wilmington develop effective reforms to parking and red light tickets and water bill collections through public involvement.  ​

Wilmington's Fines and Fees Justice Team successfully applied to participate in the Cities and Counties for Fines and Fees Justice program to access national support and expertise to help Wilmington reduce its reliance on fees that disproportionately impact low-income communities.
